Blog 3: Horror special!

As a special of terror and Halloween, today I want to talk about one of my favorite terror manga; Orochi. The author is Kazuo Umezu, a Japanese horror specialist, he wrote and drew Orochi from 1969 to 1970, forming 6 volumes of short stories of terror. In 2008 they released a live-action, but I haven't seen it so I can't talk about it.

The story is about a young woman who has supernatural powers, she is dedicated to observing and “helping” people´s lives, but the type of help she gives has terrible consequences.

I really like short horror stories, I think that by being short, they become more shocking. I especially like a lot Orochi because Kazuo makes plot twits very crazies and unexpected, his stories are very scary, they even become a little distressing. (or at least I think so, even though I like terror, I'm a little scared)

One of the other things that  I like about Kazuo Umezu is his drawing style, the expressions of the characters are very exaggerated and that reminds me of a lot of the expressionism of german cinema; with expressions full of madness and despair.

The Japanese are well known for handling terror very well, if you like this genre and you also like to read mangas and that kind of things, you should read Orochi, you most likely like it.

  3. I find japanese horror stories and horror culture itself so fascinating and well constructed but I personally do not enjoy it because it is so damn scary, with russian and chinese one.
